The PACIFIC sludge thickener is used for settling solids and clarifying liquids.
It is part of a circular tank (usually made of concrete) with a sloping conical floor.
The raw water is fed in through the top of the cylinder located in the centre of the tank, and the cylinder is almost completely submerged in the water. The purpose of the cylinder is to eliminate possible turbulence in the liquid flow and to give it a downward direction.
The sludge settles at the bottom of the tank, from where it is removed. The clarified water reaches a collection channel, and the remaining solids are discharged into a waste pit so that the process can continue.
